How can broader public health messages and research settings facilitate support in the workplace?

Our research into public health aspects of musculoskeletal health and work encompasses a broad range of enquiries, including the nature of the impacts of MSK conditions on work, how we can effectively measure these impacts, and the development of programmes to support patients to engage successfully in work for as long as they wish to do so.

Impact of obesity on work ability in older ages

People in Britain are living for longer, and an increasing number of older people are working past the traditional retirement age. Using information from the HEAF study dataset, we explored the impact of obesity in work for people who are working aged 50 and over

Making it Work™ - Scotland

Making it Work™ - Scotland seeks to modify an existing Canadian programme which helps people with inflammatory arthritis in work, in order to make it relevant for people with a much wider range of musculoskeletal conditions, a broader range of modern working practices, and delivery within NHS Scotland.

QUantifying the Impact of Chronic pain on engagement in paid work (QUICK)

The QUICK study aims to develop a new standardised questionnaire which can be used to assess the many different ways in which chronic pain affects work ability, taking into account modern ways of working.

Adapting PROMs for people with rheumatoid arthritis in the UK, Sweden and the Czech Republic

Reliable, valid measures are required to identify work difficulties for people working with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study seeks to take existing patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and culturally and linguistically adapt them for use in the UK, Sweden and the Czech Republic.
